Discover the heart behind Uganda-Helping Hands — our story, mission, and commitment to transforming lives
Uganda- Helping Hands is a grassroots humanitarian nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting vulnerable children, empowering women and girls, and strengthening communities across Uganda.
Founded in 2022 in Katumba Village, Bundibugyo District, our organization was born from compassion and a commitment to stand with those facing poverty, abandonment, and limited opportunities. Today, we operate as a registered Community Based Organization (CBO) serving communities across Uganda through education support, livelihood development, orphan care, and community empowerment programs.
Founder & Chairperson
Uganda- Helping Hands was born from the hardships of the COVID-19 pandemic and the lived experiences of its founder, Bukama Hakim. Born into a life that taught vulnerability firsthand, Bukama witnessed his mother struggle as a young wife in a polygamous household, eventually leaving to protect her children. By age seven, he knew what it felt like to be displaced, to struggle for stability, and to watch a mother fight tirelessly for her children's future.
In 2022, Bukama started a small gardening project, sharing harvests with vulnerable families. What began as a simple act of compassion grew into a tailoring initiative with five sewing machines, and eventually evolved into a comprehensive humanitarian organization. Today, Uganda- Helping Hands cares for orphaned children, provides skills training, and works to build a future where hope is stronger than hardship.
A compassionate and empowered society where orphans, vulnerable children, and disadvantaged families live with dignity, security, and opportunity.
