In many rural communities in Bundibugyo District and across Uganda, orphaned and vulnerable children face daily struggles that most people rarely see. The loss of one or both parents often leaves children without stable shelter, regular meals, access to education, or the emotional support necessary for healthy development.
Uganda- Helping Hands was established with a deep commitment to respond to these challenges by providing care, protection, and hope for orphaned and vulnerable children. The organization currently provides shelter and daily care for a group of orphaned children who live under the supervision of our dedicated caregivers.
One of the most urgent challenges currently faced by the organization is that the house where the children are staying is old, overcrowded, and structurally unsafe. The building does not provide the level of protection and comfort that growing children need for healthy development. During harsh weather conditions, the children remain vulnerable due to the poor condition of the structure.
Many orphaned children carry deep emotional wounds caused by loss, neglect, or traumatic experiences. Without proper support, they face increased risk of dropping out of school, experiencing neglect, suffering emotional trauma, or being exposed to exploitation and early labor.
Without stable care, orphaned children often move from one temporary home to another, living with relatives who are already struggling with poverty. These realities create long-term barriers that affect not only their childhood but also their future opportunities in life.
Recognizing this urgent need, Uganda- Helping Hands has begun the construction of a new and safer orphan home. This project aims to provide a stable and protective environment where children can live, grow, and regain the sense of security that every child deserves.

The new home will provide adequate sleeping areas, improved sanitation, and a safe space where children can study, play, and build friendships. Creating this environment is not only about constructing walls and roofs; it is about restoring dignity and stability in the lives of children who have already experienced significant loss and hardship.

In addition to the children living in the shelter, the organization also supports other orphaned children who are currently staying in foster homes with relatives or trusted families in the community. Through this combined approach, Uganda- Helping Hands ensures that children who cannot be accommodated in the shelter still receive support and monitoring to safeguard their well-being.

Quality sleeping arrangements for all children
Cooking utensils, stoves, and food storage
Blankets, sheets, and clothing for children of all ages
School supplies, books, and learning resources
Food, utilities, and caregiver salaries
Uganda- Helping Hands is committed to protecting children from abuse, exploitation, and neglect. The organization operates under a Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy to ensure the safety and well-being of all children under its care. All staff and volunteers undergo background checks and safeguarding training.
