My name is Bukama Hakim, founder of Uganda- Helping Hands. I was born into a life that taught me vulnerability firsthand. My mother, married at just 21, faced hardships in a polygamous household and later left to protect her children. By age seven, I knew what it felt like to be displaced, to struggle for stability, and to watch a mother fight tirelessly for her children's future.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, I watched children in my village never return to school, young girls married off early, and families lose hope. I knew I had to act. Starting with a small gardening project, then a tailoring initiative with five sewing machines, Uganda- Helping Hands was born. Today, we care for orphaned children, provide skills training, and work to build a future where hope is stronger than hardship.
A compassionate and empowered society where orphans, vulnerable children, and disadvantaged families live with dignity, security, and opportunity.
To support vulnerable communities through education support, humanitarian assistance, empowerment programs, and sustainable community development initiatives.
