From Soil to Sustenance

In Bundibugyo District, families face limited access to nutritious food and steady income. Our Farming & Poultry Project bridges that gap by introducing climate-smart agriculture, indigenous poultry rearing, and sustainable crop growing techniques.

Volunteers and local farmers work side-by-side — building nurseries, constructing chicken coops, learning organic pest control, and establishing egg production units. The result? Healthier families, economic resilience, and skills that last generations.

Our improved local chicken breed project gives families protein-rich eggs and meat. Volunteers assist with:

  • ✔️ Construction of elevated coops (predator-proof)
  • ✔️ Vaccination campaigns & disease prevention
  • ✔️ Training on feeding using locally grown maize & millet
  • ✔️ Establishing egg hatchery micro-enterprises

🌾 Regenerative Agriculture

We work with farmers to restore soil fertility and increase yields without chemical inputs. Activities include:

  • ✔️ Building keyhole gardens & mulching techniques
  • ✔️ Drought-resistant crop introduction (sorghum, cassava)
  • ✔️ Farmer field schools & demonstration plots
  • ✔️ Composting and natural pest repellents

A Day on the Farm

🌅 6:30 AM – Morning chores — feeding poultry, egg collection, watering seedlings.
🌾 9:00 AM – Project work — constructing chicken runs, planting demo plots, training locals.
🥗 1:00 PM – Shared lunch — farm-fresh meal with the community.
📚 3:00 PM – Workshops — poultry health, organic farming, or business skills.
🔥 Evenings — cultural exchange, local storytelling, weekend farm tours.
